The school library is a safe and quiet space a lot of students choose to come for work and study. I would like to make this feel more quaint and warm for my students to sit and read, work on their assignments, or have a place to come and not have to worry about anything. I feel that if my students have a more comfortable and inviting place, outside of just their classrooms, to do these things, they will be more inclined to come to the library for studying, research, reading, etc. Students spend an average of 8-9 hours on campus and school may be the only opportunity they have to disengage from their normal world. The funding of this project will provide new, fun and comfortable seating options for a reading corner and small work/project tables. The small tables with floor pillows and a rug will provide less traditional work stations for students, making solo or group work more fun. Large chairs and a rug will provide more seating in our reading nook, where students can sit to read in a more comfortable setting. If students feel safe and comfortable in their environment they will be more likely to stay on task, work harder, and be successful in what they do.
