Dramatic play materials help create a developmentally appropriate activity that strengthens students' communication skills, builds classroom community and helps develops literacy skills. It allows children to experiment with purposes for literacy they’ve seen at home, to recognize that different tasks require different texts, to produce a wide variety of texts and to act out stories they have heard. Children experience authentic experiences with leadership, collaboration and deep problem solving through play. These materials will allow the students to apply what they know, encourage them to ask questions and seek out new information. Students entering kindergarten in the 2020 school year may struggle with communicating and working with peers. After spending months at home, they may have missed out on critical skills they could have been developrd through preschool experiences and/or play with peers. My goal of adding dramatic play materials and play time into our kindergarten day is help students experience empathy, collaboration and kindness for each other. I would be very grateful for any donation that helps my students.
