My students are learning English while at home during this corona crisis. Many of them are without basic supplies for learning. Once a week I have dropped off supplies since March 23rd. We are gardening and creating art together! We have begun learning about the "Life Cycle of a Seed". My job is to teach them English for success. With 23 years of teaching experience, I am focusing on nutrition and mental health. We are feeding their mind and body. Teaching my students through hands-on activities that are fun and impactful, means I know this material will stick with them long after this school year. I have mailed them 5 seeds already. I plan to have them learn more about the life cycle of plants; continue their some vocabulary building while learning specific science terms; and developing the ability to grow their own food. They are on board with growing and learning. We need your help! We are ready to move our container gardens outside very soon. My students live in inner city neighborhoods in Hyde Park~Boston, Massachusetts. We need to set them up to feed themselves during this time while learning lifelong skills of empowerment, resilience, and coping during adversity. Help them now, they learn for life. I chose this project because I know their homes lack nutritious food at times. Daily at school our school has fed them breakfast, lunch and snacks. Oh, the snacks they eat. But now they are home, without our support. Let's get them fed and develop their math, science and art skills-all while learning English. My students are from Haiti, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and America. Thank you!
