These books and science kits will stimulate the minds of the students in many different ways. Our book club will focus on a different topic each nine weeks with a variety of reading and activities related to the topic. The first nine weeks will focus on eating healthy and we will read the book entitled The Truth About Food with follow-up activities of making posters and creating healthy snacks to share with students at recess. During the second nine weeks, the students' focus will be on STEM projects using the Buildings and Bridges science kits where they will work with a partner building and designing specific projects. The third nine weeks will bring in some poetry - both reading and writing! The last nine weeks of the school year will bring in a favorite of the students, reading for fun, with two award winning fiction novels by the same author, with different reading levels for different abilities. The books included are The View From Saturday and From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. Our book club will offer a variety of thought-provoking reading, writing, and building activities - sure to be a hit among the students!
