My students have trouble staying in the regular classroom environment due to issues with behavior. Having a positive outlet for the excess energy that my students exhibit can help them focus and stay in the classroom for longer periods. The longer they stay in the classroom, the better chance they have to absorb what is being taught and benefit from the classroom instruction of the teacher. Research has shown that students with behavior issues can benefit from having intentional fidgets to help them focus their energy. Since all students are different and require different strategies to help them achieve success, I have requested a variety of different fidgets to help meet the wide range of needs of my students. I have included hands-on fidgets such as thinking putty, zipper bracelets, and finger labyrinths. There are also feet-on fidgets included through the chair bands. For a more full-body focus, the wobble cushions are available to sit on them in their regular classroom seat and the weighted blankets can provide them with a calming sense of security. The hoberman spheres and liquid bubble timers are multimodal as they are designed to be both hands-on and visual while engaging them in calm breathing techniques as well. By donating to this project, you will help me create toolkits specially designed to provide students with intentional fidgets and their teachers with resources to help keep them in the classroom and engaged in the classroom learning targets. These resources will be intentionally and thoughtfully introduced to the classrooms and students after careful thought, planning, and training. Not all resources will be utilized for all students, but rather be used as a toolkit from which to select the appropriate tool for each student to be successful.
