With the recent global events, I've realized that I need to be more purposeful in adding multicultural materials to my classroom. Kids connect with stories they hear and read, I would like to add more diversity books to my classroom and I'm hoping this kickstarts meaningful conversations. This can teach students how to be kind, compassionate, and recognize that it's okay to be different. I would also like to add multicultural skin tone markers, crayons, and colored pencils. This allows students to draw realistic pictures of themselves and their friends, showcasing the differences in each one of us. Lastly, I'm asking for bandages that match my students skin color. In first grade, we go through a lot of bandages - students should be able to have a bandage that matches their skin tone.
