My 3rd graders have come to the point where they are no longer learning to read, they are reading for pleasure. Our school has implemented a schoolwide incentive program, based on Accelerated Reader quizzes,to motivate students to read more. My students are excited about the prospect of moving through the various levels, but do not have a sufficient amount of titles available to them so that they may realize their goal. I have great students, with hard working parents, in a low socio-economic area. Most of my students walk to school and are on free or reduced lunch. Regardless of the difficulties that life may throw at my students, they come to school happy and eager to learn.
