Four year olds learn through doing and manipulating things more than sitting and listening to a circle time lesson. My classroom is always changing themes and materials and having materials that match that theme (such as dinosaurs or insects) enriches their learning and you can help with that. The more pretend play and hands-on activities we can give them, the better they’ll be prepared for Kindergarten. The various counters included can be used for math activities from counting, sorting, to patterning and color recognition. The life cycle materials help enrich the science side of our classroom. We will be looking at the life cycle of butterflies at the end of the year and having a physical manipulative to explore can help connect our lessons to those with a kinesthetic learning style.
