My Special Education students begin Distance Learning again in just a few weeks. Accessing and engaging with online instruction is challenging for all students but is particularly challenging for students with Specific Learning Disabilities and/or Autism. Certain tech tools, like headsets and microphones, allow students with learning differences interface with grade level content through applications like Text-to Speech and Voice Typing while an external mouse allows for easier navigation. Without the support that these tools provide, the struggle of many special education students grows exponentially. Headsets allow students to listen to materials being read aloud while microphones allow them to express what they know using their voice. Having access to an external mouse will provide support to students who struggle with the precision needed to carry out tasks using the track pad. By funding this project, you will help level the playing field for a group of special education students which ultimately, promotes growth and learning for all students.
