“Fitness for the Future” “Fitness for the Future” We are taking fitness a step further. We are using Fitness equipment for building an exercise program to help empower ALL students to benefit not only in the classroom but in life. School AND Grade Level(s) or Subject(s) Taught: Daniel E. Lewis Middle School - 6th, 7th, 8th Physical Education Project Description (purpose, activities, participants, objectives, impact and duration): In Fitness for the Future, we are truly taking fitness a step further. We are using a research program that uses student physical fitness data to see if it can increase with the use of individualized fitness equipment. The equipment requested is to give students a more well-rounded opportunity in physical education, and increase knowledge of physical activities to be able to use outside of physical education class. With the new generation of Physical Education and fitness programming, we push to increase activities for students that they can not only do in class but on their own at home. We here at Daniel E. Lewis Middle School have been pushing our fitness based physical education to help combat low grades, lack of motivation, and behavior issues. We will take heart rate data to make sure students get in the target heart rate zone, then see if those students achieve better after a fitness routines. As such we have stressed with this new equipment we are giving the students the opportunities to build a strong knowledge base about their abilities to be active and live a healthy lifestyle. Our overall goal is to build lifelong learners, reduce behavior issues, and increase our state mandated fitness scores. That means we have to gear our students for success and the use of this equipment can instill success in our students to be excited about physical activity
