We are looking to create a number of artistic showcases and competitions for students to engage in virtually as a way to keep community and creative spirit alive during the shelter-in-place ordinance caused by the virus COVID-19. In order to do this successfully, we will safely distribute sanitized artistic resources to students such as watercolor pencils, brushes, markers, pens, watercolor paper, and other artistic resources.
This is an opportunity for students and staff to continue to connect in moments of communal, creative joy when we are otherwise isolated and out-of-touch. We will announce the art competition guidelines and prizes via the school social media pages and Google Classroom to generate student interest. We will announce the art competition rules and guidelines via these online platforms as well. Student will direct message their images for us to post on our social media account and create an online display of all art pieces created by UPA youth artists. The school community will then vote for the art pieces that best fit the theme and follow the art competition guidelines. When all votes are in we will create a post and a video live-feed announcing the winners.
Our school is going to great lengths to ensure safety. We are currently ensuring all students have the technological resources they need to navigate school work by distributing Chromebooks for under-resourced students. Our school is also going be become a food distribution point for food-insecure families in the community. We are being extremely diligent in ensuring that this process is safe and free of contamination of any kind. Given that we are already serving as a point of distribution, we will use these distribution-days to distribute the art supplies to students who do not yet have them.
