My middle school students predominantly socialize only in the school setting. In addition to struggling with language and social thinking concepts, they rarely form connections with others to be considered a friend outside of the school setting. Many of my students go home and play video games by themselves. I believe if they can be provided with the opportunity to be more comfortable in a shared fun experience using appropriate social language then it will lead to success in other outside social activities. In addition, the types of language structures to be used in these games would benefit their ability to negotiate, comment, explain, and request.
