Physical activity is an integral part of healthy living and also student learning. In physical education, we strive to do a wide range of activities to help support student health and brain development. These range from jump rope and jumping activities, to dance and rhythm, to sport specific, to non-traditional activities like yard games or speed cup stacking. This gives students the opportunity to get involved in activities they enjoy to keep them active. Pedometers will help students develop goals and get a visual for how hard they are working in class. Students can always feel when their heart rates climb by how fast they are breathing or how much they are sweating. However, it is fun to set workout goals that can be quantitatively measured. Pedometers will help do this. Students will also be able to see which activities require more movement and which might be healthier choices for them.
