Our program is designed to help underprivileged students struggling both socially and academically and provide a safe and welcoming learning environment. Students earn points which they are able to cash in for tangible items (snacks, toys, basketballs, and small gifts) and earned break times for demonstrating academic rigor and positive social interactions. Some examples of prosocial skills we are trying to promote include, regulating difficult emotions, working together, disagreeing appropriately, accepting feedback, using appropriate language, and asking for help. Acquiring these skills will not only help these students succeed in the classroom but in their communities and homes. We are trying to build their capacity to be internally motivated. Until we get there, the success of the program depends on an expansive incentive program. By donating to our project, you will supply our students with exciting and motivating menu items that they would otherwise not be able to afford. We are currently utilizing outdoor play (sports, walking, etc.) but as the temperature drops, the Xbox will be used as earned time at the end of the day. Students will be able to purchase credits that can be applied towards the usage of the Xbox to play various sports or puzzle games. We have used an older gaming system in the past and have had great success but unfortunately this system has since failed to power up this year.
