Soft seating in learning common areas are places that students naturally gravitate towards. Some students combine multiple soft seats together for social or collaborative settings. Others choose to use these soft seating options as respite from the world around them. Soft seating areas are also the most expensive to purchase as well as the most well worn areas of libraries and learning common spaces. When we think of how to best serve our students social, emotional, and literary needs, we are constantly brainstorming ways to rework our current soft seating arrangements and always come up short. New soft seating options would help us change the perception of our library and help us create a space that is conducive to the learning commons ideal we are striving to emulate. We want to be a space that allows our students the freedom to modify the environment around them to best suit their needs. New soft seating options would enable the environment to be modified quickly and easily which would facilitate more efficient and effective learning opportunities for the students who interact within this environment.
