Each spring, teachers and students co-plan a week of intensive student-led learning where students choose which academic subjects interest them most. For one week, forty-five 2nd and 3rd grade students will get a chance to learn about what moves them and what inspires them to grow as learners and as people. This year, students expressed fascination with science and the mysteries of our world! In our lessons, Explorers of the Great Beyond, students will spend the week building and exploring scientific principles like gravity, adaptation, the Earth's layers and the solar system through building models and creating experiments. These activities include crafting Earth's layers, creating nebula jars, designing adaptations for deep sea creatures and building rocket ships. The hands-on nature of these experiments will help students to develop a more in-depth understanding of the concepts about which we are learning. Students have been engaged in online learning for over a year and have not had the chance to explore their topics beyond the computer screen. These donations will allow students to engage their brains in a new, hands-on learning extravaganza in a distance learning setting.
