In many high school classrooms you will see the same thing, desks and chairs set up in many ways. When these students are learning a language that uses their hands to communicate with each other and the teacher, imagine what a distraction that desk can be! Our American Sign Language 1 & 2 classroom is totally desk free. The other teachers continually challenge me with "what if" scenarios. My students are constantly engaged in a variety of learning activities and creative ways to utilize their space. Although it is not easy for them to hide their phones during instruction or put their heads down, it can be a bit challenging for 33 of them to get up at one time and grab a white board. This can take up a lot of classroom time. The amazing organization of a chair sack and with all of their supplies would allow the flow of instruction to continue, while they move from individual work, partner work and group conversations while still allowing for individual accommodations needed for those students who move at a different pace and may need to take notes or jot down pictures. Sign language is a unique and special language in the World Language department and these supplies would assist my students in learning the language without disruptions and with the ease and organization it deserves. Thank you for your consideration in helping this project.
