Comfortable furniture that is age appropriate, allows children to feel at home and welcome in an environment that can otherwise be intimidating for a first year learner. During independent reading center time, children choose a location in the reading center that works for them. Currently my students are using chairs and a small sofa that I have had in my classroom for 13 years. We've made good use of what we had, but they are no longer adequate. My kinders are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they have a comfortable space to work, fostering a love of literature. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them comfortable and safe seating options, that will draw the reader into the space and invite them to curl up with a good book. This furniture will be extremely beneficial in creating personal space, in a community of budding readers, as some students naturally need more definition of space than others. The items I have selected are durable, have excellent reviews and can easily be cleaned. Drawing young children in, developing a sense of family and a love of learning, by providing a comfortable learning environment, allows kids to ease their anxieties of being away from the comforts of home. Once new learner have their basic needs met, their minds are more focused and beginning readers are able to take the necessary risks to build their confidence and blossom.
