We all need to move and fidget throughout the day. Providing my fourth graders with wobble stools will increase student learning as they are able to focus and stay engaged since their brains won't be focusing on how bored or stiff they are. I can't ask fourth graders to sit still when I know that I couldn't do it myself. They need to be able to wiggle and move around when we have lessons where they have to be at their desks. By alleviating the need to move and fidget, I can create a safe space for them to learn, a place where they will not be distracted by needing to move and play, but where it is accepted and embraced.
