My students have book clubs throughout the year. The only club I have not been yet able to supply books for is our fantasy book club. These books help each student step out of their lives and into the magical world of dragons, elves and other realms. They inspire children to step out of their box and try new things. In reading, this is always great. Lessons we may include is -each book clubs acts out their favorite scene from the book. They also may draw/write some fantasy to add to the book, and some students toward the end write their own fantasy stories. We try and add writing fantasy and weave it within their reading club. Students will be able to taste a different genre that they may not have before, and within those stories will continue to learn about character traits, the hero's journey and many other important ideas that they will bring on to high school eventually.
