As a school librarian, I get the honor of meeting all of the students in my school building. I believe that the library should be the heart of the school. This is my first year in this building. As I assessed my book collection, I noticed we were lacking books about diverse characters. I came to the realization that our library didn't reflect our diverse population. Junior high can be a tough time for students. I want the library to be a place where they feel welcomed and see themselves represented. By adding diverse titles to the collection, I hope to encourage all students to find books with characters like themselves.
