Two of the 6th grade classes at Juniata Park Academy will be going on guided walking tours with Mural Arts Philadelphia. We will be seeing and learning about some of the many beautiful murals in Center City. Students will learn about the history of murals in Philadelphia, the process of how they come to life, and the stories behind each mural and its artist. My hope is for our students to see the greater impact that public art can have on a community/city. I want to show students how art plays a bigger role in the world, and how artists use their work to inspire, excite, encourage, advocate for, and celebrate their communities. Art is a powerful tool that can be used to create real change in our world. It is my goal to inspire our 6th graders through these murals, and encourage them to use their creativity to make a positive impact in their lives and the lives of others.
