This is my 12th year teaching and every year and I find I am ready to spread my wings more and more in my teaching philosophy. I have found that my students enjoy not being "cooped" up in their desks have the freedom to move around to minimal options that I currently have. I asked my students if they could have the classroom of their dreams what would it look like? Their answers didn't surprise me but affirmed my mission to change my learning environment within my classroom. They discussed being able to stand and work, sitting on comfy cushions to learn, soft space to sit where they could focus, and more. I currently have a few rocker seats that are always scooped up quickly when work time begins. I also have some fidget bands for students to get out wiggles. The new materials I believe would help meet the needs of my students. The large pillows could help my amazing first graders collaborate in books clubs and writing workshop. The high back floor seats for the students who like to work at low tables while also providing back support. The leaf cushions would be great with their clipboards to find a place somewhere in the room where they want to work. I love the idea of my students learning in a manner that works for them. They are non-traditional learners in terms of doing work and creating ideas that impress and make me excited about teaching each day. I want my classroom environment to compliment and encourage this style of learning.
