After fifty years, there is renewed interest in returning astronauts to the surface of the Moon. We may even be in the early stages of a new Space Race. My goal in this project is to give students hands-on experience designing and maintaining their own Lunar Bases. These shipping tubes will be used as "fuel tanks" and "cargo pods" in modular model rockets constructed by students. To keep their bases up and running, they will plan supply launches to and from the Moon. As in real launches, students will have to make sure their payloads can fit inside the pods, and not weigh too much to launch! I believe that seeing these rockets fully built will inspire students to appreciate the feat of space flight. Maybe one of them will take what they learn in this project to a Lunar Base in the not-too-distant future. These tubes will be used and reused with future students.
