The games in this project will help develop phonological awareness skills. Developing the ability to hear, manipulate, and play with sounds is critical in a child's journey in learning how to read. Students with dyslexia need a lot of support and explicit instruction in this area. Also, we unfortunately have more and more students every year not experiencing the joy of preschool where they are exposed to rich literature, nursery rhymes, songs, etc. These games will help strengthen the ability for students to hear and play with the sounds of our alphabet. I have students come to my room for small group reading instruction and I am also able to "push-in" to first grade classrooms. These games can be used to reach a large number of students for many years to come. My hope is that these games will help my students realize that although learning to read is difficult, it can also be a lot of FUN and that learning will spread far beyond the four walls of my classroom.
