I have a wonderful group of learners in a Title 1 building. As fifth graders, they are given the opportunity and responsibility to use flexible seating in the classroom. I've found that this helps the students focus, teaches them ownership and fosters friendships! I have 20 students in my homeroom/ELA this year, 24 in my math class and 20 in each science class. In the past I have mostly hand made or bargain shopped for flexible seating options. However new fire codes have caused me to have to take most of these items out of the classroom. Unfortunately this means that many of my flexible seating options are no longer available to my learners. My students would use these seating options to teach themselves how to stay focused on a task and help them understand how THEY learn best!
