My students read at a variety of levels ranging from a kindergarten to sixth grade equivalency. As their special education and social studies teacher, I feel that one of the most valuable skills I can give my students is the ability to read the news and a desire to be an informed, educated citizen. The Time Kids Magazine subscription I am requesting is leveled to meet their individual needs. We would be able to work in small groups during social studies or independent reading time to read current, interesting news at their individual reading level. This would allow all students to work on their reading comprehension and fluency in an environment that would foster success. When students are accessing the news in a format that is engaging and appropriate for their ability, my hope is they will develop a lifelong love of consuming information.
