Some of my scholars are struggling readers and writers, but they have big ideas about the world around them. I want to use Junior Scholastic to push these students even further in their thinking and reasoning with articles geared toward their age group that are interesting and get the students engaged. With Junior Scholastic, my students will be able to dive into Social Studies texts that engage them and push them to challenge ideas, assumptions, and maybe even themselves. My students will work on reading and annotating skills while reading the texts, and then will work on writing skills when reflecting on the different articles and the impact. My students will debate controversial topics found in these magazines and work on their speaking and listening skills as well.
