Using a dictionary helps students expand vocabulary and improve reading comprehension. Looking up one word in a dictionary unintentionally exposes students to several other words and their meanings. Having updated and comprehensive dictionaries will help improve students' comprehension and word fluency. Employing the use of new dictionaries also helps develop the ability to use paper texts to research information. Currently, the dictionaries that the students have access to are out-dated, worn, or simply too incomplete to be practical. 50 new dictionaries would provide a dictionary for every student in both 6th grade Reading classes. With your help, these students can continue to develop literacy skills that will last a lifetime.
