The first step to building a culture of students that love to read is giving them access to books. These books should be good books that are current, up to date, and relevant in today's world. I strongly believe that students should have books that reflect who they are. My classroom library need a major facelift. The majority of our books are books that I've purchased with my own money this past summer or books that I have inherited over the years. Many of them are either old and not interesting to my demographic of students, or they love them, but the cover is falling off of it. I sat with my students and asked them the types of books they like, and what they'd like to see in our classroom library... These are books they voted on, and I think they chose a great range of books that future classes will also enjoy!
