My classroom services a large variety of different students, on different reading levels, who speak different languages, and some who also have special needs. We are a Title I school, that services very low income students. My project would enable me to bring a wider array of high interest text into my classroom for literature circles. The books that I have chosen were selected by the student based interest assessment. These books would allow students to connect to larger themes seen in psychology and make connections between the books they read in circles to the larger concepts in the class. The purpose of this project is to provide students with supplemental materials to use within my psychology class. Our goal is to use these books to engage students and generate high leverage discussions. Research has shown when students are able to interact with a piece of literature it maximizes comprehension and overall student achievement.
