At the beginning of the semester, I had the students complete a survey of their art experiences thus far and asked which art medium they were most interested in. Eighty-six percent of my students chose clay as the material that they hoped to work within my class. If the project were to be funded, I plan on having the students apply to the Eccles k-12 art show to help them not only display their art for our school community but Ogden's art community at large. Due to my prior experience with ceramics, I have been able to craft a lesson plan which covers an in-depth look at the geological breakdown of how clay is made and the chemistry that is involved in making your own clay bodies, glazes, and the firing process.
