My 5th graders I case manage in my building will be moving up to the Middle School come Sept. and are about to embark on many different situations at the Middle School. These may include changing friends, trying to follow a schedule and get around a new building, getting used to changing for each one of their classes throughout the day and having so many different teachers. This also includes going to their lockers and having to open their combination locks throughout the day each and everyday. This project includes each of the 7 classrooms in my building receiving 5 combination locks and a bonus combination lock. For any of the students to become Master Lock, Lock Master, each student must open each of the 5 locks. They will also try a Bonus lock combination. The locks will be kept in a bin and labeled with both visual and written directions on how to open the lock. There will also be a chart posted with their name on it and Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4, Level 5, and Bonus. Once the student has told their teacher, shown their teacher they were able to work the lock to open it, they can check their name off. After they become a Master Lock, Lock Master, they can get their own lock to keep. I want them to be able to open their locks with confidence, do this quickly, and be able to still feel they have time to socialize with their new friends on the way to their next class! I want to give all the 5th graders in my building the chance at becoming Master Lock, Lock Masters! They can be leaders and helpers to the other 5th graders!
