Rhythmic movement is a way for students to become more in tune with their body and movements. In the school I teach in, there are students who have little to no confidence in themselves and their own abilities, not only to learn but also in their ability to contribute as citizens in the school. Confidence plays a huge role in students' future lives and successes. With this class on rhythmic movement, I hope to create an environment where students learn to be confident with their bodies and minds. I have begun to work with students in the course and the results already begin to show themselves. When learners are working on this mindful practice, they are able to feel more confident in themselves. The more we got into the activity the more learners were smiling and enjoying themselves. They also became much more confident in their movements overtime and this has translated confidence into the classroom. My goal is to build this program by bringing in items that can help with the rhythm and dance of movement. By adding in ribbons, shakers, and drum sticks, students may be more apt to stay in the program longer as well as engage further in their body movements.
