These books are meant to bolster the library in my classroom, a place where my students have built their love of learning. One of the things my students find the most frustrating is their desire to read more but not being able to find books that are both relatable and on their level. Many students are worried about being seen as reading 'baby books' if they read books on their level, giving them extra undo anxiety around reading. The books that are on this list provide my middle school students with high interest texts that they can relate to, all the while remaining at their instruction reading level. Included in my list are not only a few classics that ALL students love, such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Judy Blume, but books from the Red Rhino series. The Red Rhino series is a group of both fiction and nonfiction that are specifically designed for students that are in the 1st-2nd grade reading level but are in the 4th-7th grade age group. This will allow my students to have access to both interesting literature and engaging informational texts as well!
