Books are an integral part in teaching students how to read and the love of reading. Many of our students are not exposed to reading at a young age and so do not have that love of reading. It is my job as a first grade teacher to not only teach them how to read, but instill that love of books in them. Students need a variety of books and genres that will teach them the importance and purpose of reading. There are many parts to reading, and the books that I am requesting all have a different purpose or lesson for students to learn. These books will be used to go along with our Reader's Workshop mini-lessons. These will be used to read aloud to students, and to teach them about why we read, strategies to make us better readers, and what we can be looking for in their own books to understand what we are reading. These books will have a very important role in my teaching everyday and students will utilize them to become life-long learners and readers!!!!
