We are going to host a diversity day for all of our middle school students in May. The purpose of this day will be to celebrate the gifts that all of our students bring to the school each day. It is important for teachers to get to know their students so that they will know them as people. It is important for teachers to know their students so that they can help them when they are upset, having a difficult time with friends or other things that are going on in their lives. It is important to know and understand student interests, hobbies, and what is important to them so that a teacher can treat them with kindness and respect. Our Diversity Day will help us accomplish this goal by helping all staff get to know our students as well as help our students get to know each other better. When people know each other well, they want to understand their perspectives and have more empathy for one another. This is an important mission and action step on our school improvement plan. This will be good for our students as it will help our students be more connected to both our school and our community.
