Adding a class set of noise-cancelling headphones to my classroom will give all of my students opportunities to strengthen their independence. I am a firm believer in flexible seating, and being able to work wherever students can focus best. When students work independently, there is always something to distract them; the tapping of a pencil, the coughing of a neighbor, or flat out talking. With a class set of these headphones, everyone will have an equal opportunity to work distraction-free. I have two pairs floating around the room currently, but it's a daily struggle trying to rotate and decide who the lucky owner of the headphones will be each day.
