The goal of this project is to provide fun snacks to motivate English Language Learners to come to Global History Tutoring and to nourish them during the time they are there. My students need to pass the Global History Regents Final Exam in order to eventually get a diploma and some of them just started learning English this year! Fun American snacks are important on several levels: 1)They are a gesture of hospitality 2)They show the kids this environment is all about them (this concept translates DIRECTLY into motivation for learning) 3)They represent the fun, dynamic country these kids came to be a part of! My English Language Learners have some amazing families who do their best to provide for them. However, between parents being back in the home-country or working 2 or 3 jobs, my kids often have to figure out lunch for themselves. Like any teenagers, they are hungrier than the average person. To put it short, snacks are more than just snacks :) I am so appreciative of the fact that websites like donorschoose exist and I'd like to give a huge thanks to anyone who chooses to help participate in this project. Believe me, your snacks will bring an ELL to tutoring and that tutoring will help these ELLs pass the tests that hold them back from graduating.
