Students with gross motor disabilities will benefit from specialized equipment that will improve their sensorimotor deficits. Specialized equipment such as sensorimotor swings and weighted blankets will stimulate sensorimotor development. The students need opportunities to improve vestibular integration and kinesthetic integration. I would like my project to focus on how movement activities are involved in sensorimotor stimulation and perceptual-motor development; thereby contributing to their overall gross motor development. Students with autism, behavior issues and multi-disabilities will benefit most from this project. Most of my students come from low income communities and face challenges every day that are beyond their control. I would like to create an environment in my class room that creates a safe, happy and peaceful experience while improving their gross motor developement.
