I am in my first year as a teacher at Harmony Grove. The elementary and middle school classes are split between myself (the choir director) and the band directors. We are all new to the district, and we discovered there is a lack of classroom instruments in the elementary/middle music room. We want to expand our offerings beyond the buckets and rhythm instruments we have, and world drums would help! Because of a generous grant this year, we now have a set of ukuleles, however, these are not as appropriate for our younger students, especially at the beginning of the year when they are learning rhythms and proper instrument care. By incorporating world drumming, we hope to further excite the students about making music, and encourage them to continue to learn and study music beyond middle school.
