As an intermediate school teacher, I have used Scholastic News in the past with my students. I have found that the articles within the magazine are current, relevant and interesting. Thus, leading to timely student-to-student conversations, as well as classroom discussions. The magazines always contain impressive photography, maps, charts, tables, graphs, and captions, all of which are important when learning to read and understand nonfiction texts. I have also found that students appreciate receiving their own magazine to read and reread. They also enjoy taking the magazine home to share with family members, providing a springboard for important family discussions.
