The first 30 minutes of our school day is dedicated to social emotional learning. Students are greeted at the door knowing their feelings matter, and that we are glad they are there. These books will allow both 4th grade classrooms to simultaneous address the struggles and skills needed to navigate life through the lens of stories. Topics such as friendship, kindness, self-esteem, honesty, decision making, and more are addressed through these books. These books will be read aloud to the class, allowing students to discuss what happened to the character, and how they reacted. This then will allow us to discuss as a class how to transfer these skills and lessons to our personal lives. While still working on language arts skills such as listening and comprehending, students are simultaneously learning life lessons and skills that will help shape them into the kind, caring, responsible adults of the future.
