Having accompaniment tracks and colored paper will allow us to have a successful spring concert as well as support the learning of students with disabilities in my classroom. The spring concert is where the talent and hard work of my students are showcased to parents, teachers, and administration. Doing this properly would mean to have recorded accompaniment or background music present to support their voices during the concert and before it in the rehearsals leading up to it where students can listen to and familiarize themselves with the accompaniment track more frequently. As I mentioned, I am also requesting colored paper. Colored paper will aid my students with visual impairments and other learning disabilities in their understanding and comprehension of music notation and lyrics. Colored paper allows me to make my papers more recognizable in a pile of other papers, enlarge texts, and to focus on a specific measure or lyric in a song we are rehearsing. Thanks to the colored paper, I will also be able to easily assign and recognize which songs need the most work and which are in the best shape. Some people say that using colored paper or text rather than plain white paper can improve learning and performance. One claim is that printing text on green paper helps students read better, while another is that yellow paper helps students perform better on math exams. Music education is proven to help students succeed in all major classes and I would love to help continue that at my school through chorus. Not only is music proven to improve learning, singing in a chorus also builds a students' self-esteem and confidence as they develop their singing skills. Increased listening skills and stress relief are other benefits of being a part of choir.
