I am requesting a collection of leveled informational Science books aligned to each of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) core ideas for 2nd Grade, and three Chromebooks. I will use these literacy and technology resources to engage my students in meaningful inquiry-based learning activities that integrate multidisciplinary concepts such as science, math, literacy, technology, and engineering design. My students will think like scientists and engineers as they plan, construct, test and improve their own water filters; explore the properties of different materials; engineer their own technologies for pollinating plants by hand; research different ecosystems; and discover Earth’s place in the universe. My STEM-Connect project will foster deeper learning in the context of real-world challenges while enabling my students to interact with technology resources they lack access to at home. Additionally, this project will present opportunities for the development of important skills tied to college and career readiness such as critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, communication, and creativity.
