I plan to have centers in the library and these kits would be at the centers. After reading to the class so they become familiar with the Fairy Tale (which they unfortunately are not always) they can tackle the challenge implied in the tale. I want them to ask questions, seek multiple approaches, understand and choose options, plan outcomes, create, test ideas, fail sometimes, improve plans, and present their solutions. This is a fun approach to problem solving and engages younger students in STEM activities. The lesson plan supports the Tennessee math standards by engaging students in problem solving, and the American Association of School Librarians standards of cooperation.
