We want to provide the opportunity for our students to learn how to play the piano and appreciate the hard work, self-discipline and effort that go into learning how to play well. These keyboards will be used in an after school program that will be taught collaboratively with our school's music teacher and a local piano teacher. Our school community is also supporting this project by creating a "keyboard library" so that students participating in the piano lessons will also have the ability to "check out" a keyboard so they can practice and develop skills at home. Opportunities will also be leveraged during the school day to highlight this learning through performance, and build bridges to the work and learning students are doing in reading and writing as well. I hope that we can provide this opportunity to about twenty students a year to start and grow it from there. The after school lessons and access to the keyboard library will be offered to our students at no charge.
