I really want my students to see and experience how their food is grown and to have hands-on learning opportunities by having a vegetable garden and chickens. We will be incubating chicks and building a chicken coop for them to watch them grow. They will be learning how to create a backyard mini farm with some chickens and growing vegetables. Eventually, they will be collecting eggs. A lot of the focus during these classes is about things that are directly related to them and their lives or that they can actually implement on their own. Knowing how to keep chickens would mean they can always have fresh eggs to eat. We have 20 different types of vegetables that we are growing from seed and transplanting outdoors in the spring. The gloves will be used for gardening, weeding, and other activities. The hoses are going to be used to water the plants. The chicken wire is for the chicken coop. I have access to salvaged lumber for the rest of it.
