Each week the students are provided with a snack and drink when they come to Book Club. This is an incentive, a special token, and a way to create positive peer relationships. What better way to bond than offer food and a good book?! The students come together to read as a group, discuss, and process different texts to promote social emotional learning, positive peer relationships, reading skills, and positive small group behavior. These students thrive with a little extra attention, a small group dynamic, and the opportunity to engage with peers over real-life issues. That is the goal of this book club. Many students finish the group: having read a great book, increased their love of reading, developed positive friendships, developed appropriate small group behavior, and a greater understanding of emotional intelligence.
