These materials will be critical to teaching students how to develop editing skills. They will also be used to teach students how to annotate pieces of literature. Using the various highlighter colors, students can chunk various pieces of information for ease of studying and also for ease of revising their own writing. One big example is CSET writing where students will annotate a piece of literature and color code each part of their quotation with a different color of highlighter. They will make an assertion about the literature and use evidence from the piece to back up their thoughts. They will highlight each part of their evidence to help them understand what they have written and to see if they need to make changes in their revisions. The sticky notes will be used to make notes on the literature when they cannot use highlighters to highlight information in specific books.
